History of the Alexander K. McLellan

Chapter #40

... Honors the name of a man who for forty years was Superintendent of Construction for the Providence Telephone Company, and many of its members recall with the greatest affection "Mr. Mac", as he was known to the men and women with whom he worked to build up the telephone plant in the state of Rhode Island.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1849, Alexander K. McLellan entered the Providence Telephone Company in 1879, and was one of the real pioneers in Rhode Island.  He had a record of 51 years of continuous service in the communications field, and 43 years in the Bell System.  He died on May 4, 1926.

The History of the Alexander K. McLellan Chapter No. 40 coincides with the history of telephone development in Providence and Rhode Island, much of which was accomplished through the efforts of the man after whom the Chapter was names.

The Alexander K. McLellan Chapter, which was the state of Rhode Island, was absorbed into the Denver Chapter in 1994 to be known as the McLellan Council.
