The
Fairy House project is one which the Denver Chapter hopes will inspire
children to regularly go out into nature and use their imaginative and
creative skills.
Partnering with local Camps, Summer Daycare programs, or other parks &
recreation programs, we will read the book "Fairy Houses" to 400
children and deliver a day of enchantment to the children attending
these events.
Each child will receive their own book.
In addition to the
reading, the child's parent or guardian will be directed to our
chapter's website, to submit their child's Fairy House picture
into our Back-to-School contest. Judging will take place by the chapter
board and several independent participants.
Four 1st
place and eight Honorable Mention gift cards will be awarded in 4 age
categories.
Natural materials used for “Fairy Houses” could include various sized
branches, bark, dry grasses, stones, pinecones, shells, acorns,
feathers, cut lawn grass, etc.
The
children are to be reminded of the two critical rules for building
materials is: 1)only use natural materials and 2) not to harm anything
that is still growing, (although garden trimmings from home are great to
recycle!)
