Pioneers
from the WJ Denver Chapter spent the day on July 29 cooking hamburgers &
hot dogs
for the many children
and families during the 1st annual Cast for Kids Alumni fishing event.
Held at the Carolina RI
Trout Hatchery, children who had attended last year's event at Roger
Williams Park, were invited back to fish, eat and have fun.
The kids caught some
trout, some snakes and a few snapping turtles. Although it was quite hot
and steamy, everyone seemed to be having a great time and were excited
to tell us all about it when they came to get lunch.
Many of the children who
attended have experienced life affecting physical challenges. Hopefully
this day allowed them an opportunity to put that in the background, even
if for a short time, so they could just be kids.
The rains held off most
of the day but at 2 o'clock, with the rumble of thunder in the distance
we took our leave. It was a wonderful day sharing fellowship,
volunteering for a great cause and touching another's life with
kindness. We look forward to the next Cast For Kids event at Roger
Williams Park on August 25.
