Accomplishments for 2007

On behalf of the WJ Denver Chapter of Verizon TelecomPioneers, I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to all who have supported Pioneer projects and fund-raising efforts in 2007.

This year we engaged more volunteers than ever, which helped us to reach out to more communities in need. Our area covers all the towns west of 128 to the Berkshires and as far south as Mansfield in Massachusetts, plus the state of Rhode Island.
Following is a list of just some of the projects where grants, your dues, vendor and store purchases, helped to provide goods and services.

Over 7,000 3rd Grade Dictionaries delivered

1700 + Hug-a-Bears given to local police, fire & EMT

Hundreds of Heart Pillows and Mini-hearts for patients who have had heart surgery

200 Disaster kits sent to displaced families of the California fires.

Thousands of Scholastic Books donated

$5500 in needed items to Foster families

$5500 allocated for Pioneers & employees to purchase Pajamas & a Book for children in shelters

21 USA Playground maps & Solar systems painted at area schools

750 Talking Books for the Blind repaired
650 Fairy House books donated to summer programs

Cast for Kids day of fishing and Alumni Cookout

$5000 supported the Camp Nawaka Campfire Boys & Girls camp volunteer project
Donation for Satellite equipment in support of our Mt. Everest project
Over 300 holiday gifts donated by Pioneers and employees.
Hundreds of used cellphones donated for Hopeline and throughout the year
Hundreds of children's books donated during Season's Readings

17 bags of winter coats donated to St. Vincent dePaul
.................and the list goes on.

We accomplished so much in 2007, but there is still so much more to do. 2008 will also be a busy year.
We will continue to engaging schools to be apart of Dr. Tim's Mt. Everest climb, we'll be looking for people to crochet woolen helmet warmers for our troops, we will be asking folks to shop for food pantries in February when supplies are low, we will be back at Camp Nawaka in the spring and continuing throughout the year with many of the projects which Pioneers and employees participated and enjoyed in 2007.

Check out our website (verizonwjdenverpioneers.org) often during the coming months to find a project you, your friends and families might like to participate. There is truly something for everyone.

Through your efforts this year, you have truly helped to enhance the quality of life in our communities.
Happy Holidays to you and your families from the WJ Denver Chapter of Verizon TelecomPioneers.

We look forward to volunteering with you in the coming year.
