alt="Steve Spafford Hall of Fame"Steve Spafford has served on the Western Mass Council Board and WJ Denver Chapter Board since 1993.

Although Steve as Chapter President is “expected” to be a leader, he embraces the Pioneer way and always goes beyond expectations. When the call goes out and a need is identified, Steve springs into action without a thought that it can’t be done. He rally’s his co-workers and encourages new member participation.

During the change in the Pioneer year Steve exhibited true leadership by leading the Chapter as President for two and a half years during this transitional time. For anyone that has been a President or held a leadership role, you know that it takes stamina, organizational skills and a cohesive team to remain on course for that period of time. Steve helped facilitate that process by his ability to work with the group to achieve the goals of the chapter and Pioneers.

Steve is a true leader in the community, he led all aspects of many projects including: Clarke School walk-a-thon, Memory Ride, Junior Achievement, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, March of Dimes and Verizon Voice Center Golf Tournament.

He received a special award by Verizon as Volunteer of the month by the Verizon Diversity Committee.

Steve has reached out to the community and has supported many efforts including the Memory Ride for the past three years which raises funds for Alzheimer’s research. He should be commended for all of the coordination of this very large project that he oversaw at many levels, including serving breakfast, cooking lunch, serving and cooking dinner and most especially entertaining the biker’s at the school staying overnight and ensuring that every need was taken care of for all of the biker’s. For this Steve should be commended, as he stepped up to the plate and did it very well. The biker’s collectively bring in over $200,000 yearly for Alzheimer’s research that goes directly to research to find a cure.

You can always find Steve helping to volunteer at Chapter and Council projects and is always there to lend a hand. His positive can-do attitude keeps everyone motivated and on track. He embraces the Pioneer values of Loyalty, Service and Fellowship and is an asset to the Denver Chapter’s leadership team.

These are just some of the projects Steve has led and assisted with this past year and therefore deserving of the title of Hall of Fame recipient for the WJ Denver Chapter for 2005.
