alt="Pat Hanson" Congratulations to Pat Hanson as our newest member into the 2002 Pioneer "Hall of Fame."   As a member of the Executive Board of the Mclellan Chapter, Pat signed up many new members which resulted in the Mclellan Chapter receiving the Regional Membership Award for 1988.  She served as Mclellan Council Vice President in 1994-1995, and she served on the Chapter and Council level as fundraiser Chairperson for secveral years.
 In 1996 Pat accepted the position of Chapter Representative for the Rhode Island Life Member Clubs and will complete that term in 2002.  When the Newport LMC was threatened with merging with another LMC because they could not find a President, Pat stepped in and took over as LMC President for the 2001-2002 Pioneer year. As a Life Member Rep. Pat represented the Chapter and brought all Regional and Chapter news, events, programs and ideas to the LMC’s and she represented the Chapter at their club meetings and Life Member luncheons. Pat has been a valued volunteer at the Providence VA Hospital Bingo for the past 10 years.  She volunteers at the monthly bingo games which between 5 and 15 clients attend, cash prizes are awarded and  refreshments are served.  Pat also assists the Providence LMC with Pioneer Playground MAP painting and reads to children at the Sheffield Elementary School in Newport.  Pat also participated in the “I Like Me” project in the Springfield School System. She is constantly looking for material donations for the Mclellan LMC’s to make Hug A Bears and Heart Pillows.  Pat has been volunteering since 1995 each Thursday at the Pioneer Store at 234 Washington St., Providence where she sells an average of $ 150-200 per month.  She can be seen at Sue’s Sweets, The Book Fair and the SeaScape Gel Candle booths each time they come to the building.  She can also be seen at Pioneer events peddling Pioneer sweatshirts, T’s and other memorabilia to raise funds for various Chapter, Council and LMC projects.  Pat received the  Pioneer of the Year award for the 1996-1997 Pioneer Year for her continued support of Pioneering volunteering at the Special Olympics in Gardner, the Special Needs Day in Rhode Island, Clarke School Walkathon, the Extreme Games, the VA hospital and many other Chapter, Council and LMC projects.  She has received numerous certificates recognizing and thanking her for the countless hours she has contributed to the Providence VA Hospital Bingo and also received a Certificate of Appreciation for her help in signing up new members to the Mclellan Chapter in 1988.  She received pins and pens in recognition of volunteering 50 hours and 100 hours from the Pioneers.  She was recognized by the VA Hospital for achieving over 200 volunteer hours for which she was given a 200 hour pin.   She keeps in touch with the Rhode Island LMC’s and collects newspaper articles and photos of their activities for the Chapter, Region and Sponsoring Company.  provided the zip codes for the LMC’s in Rhode Island so that the database could be updated and then verified the list upon completion.

alt="Barbara Farnsworth"
Pioneer Life Member of the Year

Welcome Barbara Farnsworth as the recipient of the "Pioneer Life Member of the Year" award.  Barbara was a Pioneer for about 10 years and became a Life member in 1995.

She wears a lot of hats, her biggest being a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She started volunteering with them in 1996 and tirelessly gives of her time with the interviewing, and the follow up visits, which include visiting with the children.  She keeps in touch with almost all of them and they invite her to attend their family functions and she does so with pleasure.  She averages about 20 hours a month for the foundation depending on her caseload.

She chairs the Christmas shopping each year with the Battered Women's Shelter in Fitchburg.  Other involvements include Special Olympics and she helps fundraise for our Club.  She drives 2 handicapped people to various appointments each week and will change her work schedule to accommodate all of these projects.

She has also assisted in the 911 demonstrations and is always there to help out.  And, she also helps out at the monthly bingo games, along with her other projects.  She is a naturally nice and giving person.  She has become an inspiration to many of us with her unselfish attitude and willingness to help others.  Barbara is also a very modest person and doesn't realize the impact she has on those around her.

We are proud of the support these individuals have given to pioneering.
They are true leaders in answering the call of those in need
and the objectives we strive to meet as a chapter.
