The William J. Denver Chapter participated in the Camp Nawaka work
weekend held on the first
weekend of June. We had a team 16 pioneers (8 active and 8 partners)
join volunteers at Camp Nawaka in order to get the camp ready to open.
Our project was painting the Dining hall. 8 of us arrived Friday
evening and stayed overnight in Cabins. We took advantage of our free
time Friday to finish labeling our pioneer bracelets so that they would
be ready to sell as a fundraiser for our dictionary Project. The rest
of our troops joined us Saturday morning for a full day of work. We
were able to paint the entire dining hall (brown with white trim) and
part of the recreation building. While we were painting, pioneer partner
Paul Casino used his carpentry skills to refurbish a cabin that was
falling apart. Some of the younger pioneer partners helped put the
dock together on the lake. Everyone had loads of fun. Camp Nawaka is a
non-profit campfire camp located in Otis MA. They were in need of help
and very appreciative of the Pioneers.
