work to preserve Birch Hill Wildlife Management Area -
Pioneer volunteers installed guard rails
between a dirt road an a wetland being destroyed by four wheelers at the
Birch Hill Wildlife Management area in Phillipston, MA. The poles,
which ran through Birch Hill, were donated by Mass Electric after the
power line was upgraded last year. Pioneers rented the hole digging
equipment and placed the posts approximately 12 feet apart and then
fastened rails with large bolts to each post.
